Peter Piper bought a rose,

A sweet boutonniere,

He put it in his buttonhole

With a great deal of care

Pete drove to the racing track

 He owned a chestnut mare

He went there very often,

A popular man down there

He marched into the mounting yard

To greet his chestnut steed

He was so proud to see his horse

The finest of its breed.

But the horse was very hungry

And nuzzled up to Pete

When he spied the rose in Pete’s lapel

And wanted it to eat

He snatched it out between his teeth

And closed his eyes to munch

He really loved his owner

For providing this tasty lunch

Peter stood there frowning

The loss too much to bear

When he heard a laugh behind him

A girl was standing there

She was so very pretty

With bright green sparkling eyes

She found it quite amusing

That the horse did eat first prize.

Pete gazed at her, and she at him

Her smile was oh so sweet

He’d never seen such a lovely girl

And was keen that they should meet

He went to her and said hello

They chattered near all day

He asked her when she would return

She said next Saturday

Pete thought, if you love her

It’s important to be real

Buy her a bunch of flowers

To show her how you feel.

When that fateful day came by

Pete went down to the mall

And bought some special flowers

From a friendly flower stall

Then he drove off to find her

She was standing near the track

He slowly walked towards her

The flowers behind his back

When he gave the flowers to her

She squealed with great delight

For she was quite bowled over

By this unexpected sight

And now these two are married

With three kids, I have to say,

The romance isn’t over,

There’s another bub on the way!

Now Pete looks back upon his life

Of one thing he’s very sure

That flowers given never die,

They live for evermore.
